Throwing toys and burning bra’s

Is it just me or has everyone been a little tense lately? Irate blog posts about elitist Twitterers, non-support from so called key bloggers for good causes, flaring tempers, bitchy remarks and general toy throwing all round.

Now I’m not one to burn bras, but I must point out that the overwhelming majority of the bitchiness seems to becoming from the male geek camp. I have always been vocal about my views on the number of inflated male ego’s in the South African blogosphere. A blogosphere, I might add, which is fairly insignificant in the greater scheme of things as Wogan’s pie chart will attest.

The girls just get on with it. (Top 45 listed here) Take JustBcoz and CheapThrills as shining examples. They don’t give a shit about what others think or do. Their blogs serve their intended purpose and they manage to get on with it without misplaced drama, with tons of integrity, humour and a dash of flare.

Like many others, I have an ongoing battle with my RSS feeder and I openly admit that the mark all as read button is my friend. If I haven’t read it in two days, I never will. There are however, a select few blogs which I at least skim read before I whack the entire list in one go. Those are feeds with THV – take home value – and are very rarely tech or industry related and are never self serving.

I’m saturated. Info overload. Time to cut down. I don’t care about 10 ways to better blogging or what Google launched next. Give me real content that makes me smile and nod, roll on the floor with laughter, peck a tear or contemplate my trivial and somewhat insignificant existence – because face it, we are merely specks of dust in an infinite universe.

So to all you highly strung and pompous idiots out there, relax. As the Skype landing page says, take a deep breath.

“So to all you highly strung and pompous idiots…” Ahahahaha! Nail. On. Head!

It’s empire-building syndrome. I could probably write about it forever – that basic drive to dominate things. Just don’t dare threaten someone else’s little empire. Inflated egos don’t help much, either.

Just a note on that pie chart – that 0.004% is calculated a percentage of total broadband users in South Africa. If I had to work it out as a percentage of the total population in SA, it would be about 11 times lower.

    Yet, for all our insignificance….

    Great post!
