I am 27, married, self employed, blonde, connected to the universe and happy. That said, my world is not defined by age, gender, religion, work, family or even hair colour - although these factors all play a role.
This blog is my reflection of some of the worlds I choose to inhabit - a space to play, think, dream, bitch, cry, philosophise, laugh, dump and even neglect when I don’t have anything to say.
Randomly me…
- I’m bilingual. I was raised Afrikaans - despite my mom being English - and attended an English high school and uni.
- I’ve always worked for myself and intend to keep it that way.
- I have three brothers. The age gap is 5 years and 3 years older and 23 years younger.
- I come from Elgin/Grabouw, went to high school in Stellenbosch and now live in Cape Town.
- If I had the option, I would travel for a living. I have already spent 6 months in South America, 6 months in north America, a month in Turkey, a month in Europe and at least a year on and off in the UK. I’ve experienced Zanzibar, the best part of South Africa a smidgen of Namibia and from here plan to go to the Far East, Scandinavia, the world…
- I’m a perfectionist.
- I have a thing about sticky fingers and carry waterless hand cleaner or wet wipes in my hand bag.
- I can’t wake up or go to bed at night without showering and bathing respectively.
- While we’re on personal hygiene, I wash my hair every day. I must add that I hate blow drying my hair partly cause I can’t get the brush/dryer coordination right and partly because it takes to long. I just don’t have the patience.
- I hate dress up parties, but I love to dress up.
- I need to sleep a minimum of 8-9 hours a night.
- I’m a DVD addict. Grey’s Anatomy, Ugly Betty, 24, CSI, Alias, Prison Break, House, the list goes on. Mindless entertainment is my drug of choice.
- I love reading. As long as it’s not scifi or chick lit, I’ll read it.
- I have a cat called Bono. She’s so cool that even non cat loving people love her.
- I have a thing for trees. One day I want a lush overgrown garden with big trees which I can lie under in the summer and watch the light deflect into a million rays or whose leaves I can catch in the autumn for good luck.
- I’m a fake blond.
- I hate camping, but love picnics.
- I attempt to be artistic by attending art classes and blowing loads of money on paint and canvasses.
- I’m not big on needles, spiders, heights or the dark. I always sleep on the side of the bed closest to the door and I only do down duvets and pillows.
- I LOVE macaroons! May 7 Oct 08 go down in history as the first day I ate one and fell in love.
- I love electronic gadgets and fast cars. If it’s got lights and buttons and things that go beep, I want to play with it.
- Fetishes: crispy pages of a magazine, stationery, post, presents, birthdays, moleskin anything, shoes, Macs, white linen, flowers…
- Parri makes me lemon, ginger, honey and mint tea every day of my life. When he makes it it tastes better.
- I have very small ears and big hands and feet although not proportionately so.
- I only recently started eating mushrooms and only button mushrooms at that. (Seriously, they keep them in the dark and feed them shit - that’s enough of a reason to stay clear.)
- My current apartment is the place I have stayed in the longest. My parents had a moving fetish and at age 9 they took the whole family to South America to backpack for six months. Now you know why I hate camping - I’ve paid my dues.
- I’m not big on watching sport, especially rugby. Watching 15 ugly men running after a ball that doesn’t bounce in the right direction is not my idea of a fun Saturday afternoon.
- I’m planning on voting in the next election.
- I love dessert. Pavolva with berries is my favourite.
- I eat with my fork in my right hand despite not being left handed - it just makes more sense.
- I have never snowed skied before although I did manage to stand up on my second water skiing attempt.
- I have no desire to climb a high mountain, ride the Argus cycle race, run the Knysna marathon or swim to Robben island. I live to see the cherry blossoms in Japan, the Red Square in Moscow, the fjords in Norway, the tulips in Holland, the aurora, the…
- I want kids some day, but know I need to learn to be more patient first.
- I don’t believe in organised religion but I do believe in being the best person you can be.
- I hate margarine. (I must add I’m not big on peanut butter either and I don’t eat sushi.)
- I’m fiercely loyal.
- I can’t type to save my life.
- I’m clever, but not intelectual. I can’t quote Yates or debate world history, but I have strong opinions, an open mind and I’m curios as hell.
Favourite quotes:
“Some days I think I’m going to die from an overdose of satisfaction.” - anon
“Keep your mind open and suck in the experience.” - A line of the The Beach sound track
“Honey is nice, but there is a moment before you eat it which is even nicer.” - Poo bear
